Payroll Clerk
The Payroll Clerk is responsible for assisting in the biweekly processing of payroll and benefit information for the Canadian employees, payroll preparation; processing payroll information; completing and submitting payroll reports and maintaining payroll records.
Responsibilities:
- Payroll - Ensure Bi-weekly payroll is processed accurately and on time for hourly and salary employees. Process 3rd party remittances and deductions. Reconcile government payroll remittances and ensure accurate application. Prepare and maintain employee data and payroll information in preparation for payroll tax audits.
- Time and Attendance – Maintain and ensure accurate time entry and approval processing of time sheets in time keeping software
- Benefits – Process benefit enrollment information. Review benefit statements for accuracy and submit for approval to pay.
- Payroll Reporting – Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and year-end payroll statements and reports. Process T4’s and other related year end reporting. Prepare ad-hoc and analytical reports and summaries as required.
- Compliance - Maintain payroll by ensuring processes and procedures are being followed. Ensure the accurate calculation of wages, tax withholdings, and company deductions. Ensure compliance with regulations and guidelines in the respective jurisdiction.
- Special Projects - Accomplishes special project by identifying and clarifying issues and priorities; communicating and coordinating requirements; expediting fulfillment; evaluating milestone accomplishments. Support other departments when required.
- Accounting - Provide support to the accounting department in processing transactions such as credit card statements, preparing bank reconciliations, account reconciliations, etc. as assigned.
Requirements:
- Related trade, technical or college degree/certification
- 2+ years of progressive payroll and benefits experience
- Knowledge of tax and deduction laws that apply, preferred
- Experience with Workers Compensation claims
- Experience with year-end processing
- Experience in an accounting department
- Experience in a dynamic multi-organization environment
- Experience in processing accounting transactions including reconciliation of accounts
- 3+ year experience working with Canadian payroll regulations.
- Basic knowledge of US payroll regulations, an asset.
- Experience with UKG, Ulti-Pro and/or Workforce Management, an asset
Technical Skills:
- 2+ years of progressive payroll and benefits experience
- Microsoft Office applications with proficiency in Excel
- Experience with various payroll software, UKG, Ulti-Pro, or Workforce Ready an asset
- Experience with Payroll implementation an asset
- Ability to research regulations and maintain compliance with relevant regulations
